President Park Geun Hye Says The Government Plans To Discuss With Unions And Employers On The Matter Of Labor Reform Measures

(Photo by: Pool / Getty Images News) South Korean President Park Geun Hye says the government is open to discuss labor reform measures with unions and employers.

South Korean president Park Geun Hye thinks that the process of labor reform will not be an easy task, however, Park reveals on Tuesday that the government plans to further discuss the labor reform measures with unions and employers, Korea Herald forecasts on the same day.

A trilateral committee consists of business representatives, management and government reached a landmark deal last week. As part of "an ongoing push to reform South Korea's labor market," the primary objective of the agreement is to open more jobs for the youth, The Korea Observer reported on September 16.

"What has to be done in the future is more important," says Finance Minister Choi Kyung Hwan during a speech at a job fair in Busan. "The ultimate goal of change is to make it possible for companies to hire young people without worrying about more personnel outlays."

Meanwhile, Park expresses her gratitude on the trilateral board of the government, labor union and the business representatives for agreeing on the landmark deal.

The president also says that the planned reform process will not be easy for them.

"We have reached the beginning of the labor reform after much difficulties, but I believe that the reform process planned ahead will also be very difficult, but important, too," says Park.

She goes on, "Every reform is a hard task to achieve, but it will be completed only when we all share the pain and the burden we may face in the course of the (reform) process."

Meanwhile, the governing Saenuri Party announces they will pursue "a set of proposals to reform the country's labor market," Arirang News reported on Wednesday.

"Labor reform is a must in order to revive the economy and create jobs for young people. Our party, the government and the presidential office will cooperate on administrative procedures to revise employment rules and contracts. We hope to make the process more transparent by getting help from experts."
