Cristina Stands By Meredith; Could Sandra Oh Be Back On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12?
During one of the lowest point for Meredith when Derek died, Cristina was there at her side, revealed Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen Hunt of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12.
"Cristina was there," McKidd told TVLine. "I presume Sandra was busy and unavailable for that episode, which was the only reason why [a body double was used]."
"That funeral sequence was meant to imply that Cristina was obviously there for Meredith. Her presence was felt."
TVLine pointed out to the brunette seated next to Meredith in "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 during Derek's funeral as Cristina.
Sandra Oh exited "Grey's Anatomy" in May 2014 after 10 seasons on the show.
"Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go," the actress told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey's writers to think of why she's going to go."
"I've gone through a lot of therapy over this," she added. "I started thinking about it because I had to prepare myself. I gave myself two years to emotionally let go. At the end of last season, Shonda took me aside and said, 'What are your thoughts?' I said, 'I'm ready.'"
But Sandra Oh also told TVLine that she would be willing to make a cameo on "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 if the schedule and script warrant it. Derek's funeral scene would have been perfect for a guesting appearance from Sandra Oh, her character being Meredith's good friend.
Patrick Dempsey's character, Derek, was killed off in "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 amid rumored tensions on the set between the racecar driver and showrunner Shonda Rimes as well as Ellen Pompeo, who plays his wife Meredith.
