Could Leonardo DiCaprio bag the Best Actor Award from the Academy Awards this year?

Sure enough, he was one of the frontrunners when the Oscars 2016 nominations were announced earlier this week.

Will this year finally put an end to "The Revenant" star's Oscars misery?

Koreaportal previously reported that several media sites have tagged him as a likely winner for Best Actor. He had already been nominated seven times for the category in the span of his career. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to bring home the trophy.

This time, however, he has the undeniable talent of award-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu for back-up. However, he is up against other worthy Oscars 2016 nominations for Best Actor as well.

Other nominees include Eddie Redmayne for "The Danish Girl," Matt Damon for "The Martian," Bryan Cranston for "Trumbo" and Michael Fassbender for "Steve Jobs."

"The Revenant," on the other hand, led the list of potential winners with 12 nominations to its name.

Irish Independent called DiCaprio's performance in the film "intense, focused, extraordinary" while Entertainment Weekly praised his dedication for filming in the most extreme conditions.

"DiCaprio doesn't so much act in the movie as endure it - half of his dialogue consists of grunts and 'Arrgh!' and 'Ugh!' - but he brings more to the role than sheer physicality," Miami Herald wrote about the actor's performance in the film.

"Glass' relationship with his son, which is intended to form the movie's emotional center, is too thinly rendered to make an impression. But DiCaprio is too lively, too resourceful, to allow the movie to sink into grim, solemn horror. His character may be a metaphor - a personification of our innate instinct to survive - but DiCaprio also gives him a soul."

It wasn't a surprise then that he bagged the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama. His peers, recognizing his talent, gave him a standing ovation for the victorious moment. He was up against other stalwart actors like Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp and more.

Was his win last Sunday a foreshadowing of his impending fate this February?
