The "Star Wars" spinoff, an origins story about Han Solo, has been revealed to be released on May 25, 2018. Now, the producers have reportedly shortlisted the actors who will play a young Harrison Ford in the movie cast.

According to Variety, Disney and Lucasfilm have been screening "thousands of actors" and they shortlisted about 12 actors.

The shortlist for Han Solo in the "Star Wars" spinoff included Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort of the "Divergent" series, Dave Franco ("Neighbors"), Scott Eastwood ("The Longest Ride"), Jack Reynor ("Glassland"), Logan Lerman ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower"), Blake Jenner ("Cousin Sarah"), Emory Cohen ("The Gambler").

In December last year, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort, along with a slew of actors have auditioned to be part of the movie cast, specifically to play Han Solo for the "Star Wars" spinoff.

"According to sources, more than 2,500 actors have met on the project or put themselves on tape, with casting director Jeanne McCarthy running point on finding the man to fill the vest made famous by Harrison Ford in the first Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens," it said.

It added that the young men who auditioned to be part of the movie cast for the Han Solo movie have been diverse, from the well-known to the "sort-of-known" to "relative unknowns" such as Leo Howard ("Kickin' It") and Tony Oller of "The Purge."

"Though sources say the 'sweet spot' seems to be the mid-20s, the ages of the contenders span from Chandler Riggs, the 16-year-old star of The Walking Dead, to Hunter Parrish, 28, and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek, 34," THR added.

With the shortlist, the final cast of characters, particularly on who should play the lead in the Han Solo movie, might be known in the next few months. The "Star Wars" spinoff will be released in 2018, after "Rogue One" this year and "Star Wars: Episode VIII" in 2017.
