The U.S based dating app Tinder has a new update, an internal rating that assigns its users scores based on their desirability.

Users are given scores that reveals how desirable they are on the dating site. It is a score calculated by the company that judges the most and the least desirable people swiping on the service. These scores aren't displayed publicly, though.

In September, the company said it has approximately 9.6 million daily users who execute more than 1.4 billion user profile swipes each day, cited CNET.

This internal scoring system is referred to as an "Elo score" (a term that is used to rank a chess player's skill levels). According to the company's CEO, "It's a way of essentially matching people and ranking them more quickly and accurately based on who they are being matched up against."

Tinder's new update of its ranking system helps it parse its user base in order to help facilitate apt matches. Using such a system, the app could surface more potential dates based on score compatibility.

Although it is still a dilemma whether to perceive such a rating system as a definitive scoring of our attractiveness or a supercharged hot-or-not-style Algorithm created from numerous signals.

Tinder CEO Sean Rad confirmed about this new ranking system to the reporter of FastCompany and said his own Elo Score is 'above average' and stresses that the rating is technically not a measure of physical attractiveness, but that of 'desirability', in part because its not determined simply with a profile photo. He said "It's not just how many people swipe right on you", and added that "It's very complicated. It took us two and a half months just to build the algorithm because a lot of factors go into it."

It still remains debatable if Tinder's new update of its desirability ranking system makes your score available to its user. And if done so, would they even want to know it?
