For ITZY's upcoming comeback with "CHECKMATE," the girl group dropped a plethora of photos and two concept films to tease fans. But instead of hyping up their comeback, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna ended up confusing their MIDZYs with their recent updates.

The K-Pop group made MIDZYs believe they were going with a classy theme for their comeback. But when ITZY's tracklist and poster were recently uploaded, fans were confused by the abrupt change.
Notably, ITZY's title track is entitled "SNEAKERS" and the poster brings nostalgia with the early 2000s feel. This is a huge change from their previous album concept, to the surprise of fans.
Furthermore, ITZY also uploaded a sneak peek of "SNEAKERS." But the snippet of the upcoming title song caught fans off-guard as the title track isn't what MIDZYs expected. Thus, theories have become rampant.
Some ITZY fans believe that the sudden change means nothing. This is because when looking at the promotion scheduler, the sections for "album teaser" and "title track" are different. This could mean that the two concepts are not supposed to be the same.
Other fans noted that at the bottom of ITZY's scheduler, there was a result section with boxes next to "ITZY won" and MIDZY won." This can be connected to their initial chess theme.
Though a handful of ITZY fans believe that ITZY's sudden change could mean that fans weren't expecting the "SNEAKERS" title track, hence the "checkmate."
