In order to increase the effectiveness of exercise, "time zone" is as important as the length of time of exercise. This is because, even for the same exercise, the best time for exercise may vary from person to person.

In fact, there are studies that prove this.

A research team at Skidmore College in the US analyzed the effect of exercise time according to gender in 56 adults, 30 of which are women and 26 are men, aged 25 to 55 years. All participants were healthy, non-smokers, and of normal weight. 

They performed resistance or strengthening exercises, sprint interval training, stretching, and endurance training for 12 weeks. The participants rest on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, while the exercise time was randomly assigned to either morning, 60 minutes between 06:30 and 08:30, or evening 60 minutes between 18:00 and 20:00.

Each participant is also provided a special diet. Those assigned to the evening exercise ate three meals four hours apart before exercise and one more after exercise.

As a result of the study, while the overall health and exercise ability of all participants improved, physical performance, cardiac metabolism, and mood improvement levels showed slight differences according to gender and exercise time.

In the case of female participants, participants who exercised in the morning were more effective in reducing body fat, abdominal/hip fat, and blood pressure.

On the other hand, in the case of male participants, when they exercised in the evening, their blood pressure was well managed and fatigue was reduced, and a lot of fat was burned. When the female participants exercised in the evening, upper body strength and endurance increased, and mood and satiety improved.

Study results show that women who are interested in reducing belly fat and blood pressure and increasing leg strength need to exercise in the morning. In some cases, evening exercise is recommended.
