Doctor Who Stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate will return to Doctor Who as part of a celebration for the long-running show's 60th anniversary, according to BBC's announcement (via Gizmodo). Scenes that are set to air in 2023 are already being filmed with the duo.

Tennant is well-recognized for starring as Doctor Who's Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010, while Tate had played The Doctor's companion, Donna Noble. This comeback isn't the actor's first reappearance, as BBC brought back the fan-favorite Doctor together with Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special in 2013, titled "The Day of the Doctor." It has been a decade since Tennant's return.

Details on the possible plot twist involved to reveal the Time Lord and Noble together are unclear at the moment. For the show's upcoming installment., Russell T. Davies, who served as Doctor Who's showrunner during the Tenth Doctor's run, will also reprise his role. He hasn't given any specific details either on how the pair will reunite, but instead hinted at a few possibilities when he described the comeback:

"They're back! And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it's going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime."
