TrendSetter: IVE’s Rei Is The Reason Why The ‘Gyaru Peace’ In K-Pop Went Viral

The infamous Gyaru Peace sign pose has currently been trending on all social media right now and fans have one particular K-pop idol to thank.

Notably, the pose originated from gyaru culture in Japan, where teens started to copy the peace in recent years. The trend was able to reach Korean when IVE's Rei started doing the pose in her selfies. Rei is from Japan herself and K-pop fans are hyped about how the IVE member has turned into the trendsetter.

Following the trend of the recent gyaru pose, other K-pop idols started to ride along with the trend, doing the gyaru pose in their selfies as well. Among the K-pop idols who are slaying the trend are NMIXX's Sullyoon, aespa's Giselle, and Billie's Tsuki, to name a few.

The gyaru pose notably became viral as a plethora of fans began asking their favorite K-pop idols to do the pose. The gyaru pose has now taken over social media and has even turned into a popular challenge on TikTok. Due to the popularity of the pose, IVE's Rei recently started thinking about the next pose she wants to do.

As per IVE's Rei, as she was resting in a car, she took selfies and played around, but her poses were supposedly lacking. The K-pop idol revealed this to K-pop fans via Bubble.

"I thought about what Kim Rei is Kongsoonie! And that was how the Kongsoonie pose was born," IVE's Rei further shared.

IVE's Rei has been dubbed the nickname Kongsoonie, from a cartoon character that her fans believe resembles the K-pop idol. Rei began creating a new pose based on her nickname.
