Just recently, Google Fiber workers based in Missouri have decided to unionize. The workers signed with the Alphabet Workers Union (AWU), the umbrella union which represents workers of Google's parent company. They will also be the first AWU unit to negotiate a contract.

Workers who unionized worked for BDS Connected Solutions, a company that sends their contracted employees to set up Google Fiber. Eventually, the workers voted in favor of unionizing with the Alphabet Workers Union.

The unionization was accepted by the National Labor Relations Board, as it was reported. Notably, 9 out of 10 Google Fiber employees were in favor of unionization.

Following this, Alphabet Workers Union went on to tweet an audio recording supposedly containing the voices of a BDS Connected Solutions representative and one member of a legal firm BDS had hired, who both pressured employees to not unionize.

Furthermore, the new union unit will not negotiate with Google, but with its members' employer, BDS Connected Solutions. Additionally, the unit will be represented by the Alphabet Workers Union, which is a part of the Communications Workers of America union organization as well.

A Google spokesperson commented, "We have many contracts with both unionized and non-union suppliers, and respect their employees' right to choose whether or not to join a union. The decision of these contractors to join the Communications Workers of America is a matter between the workers and their employer, BDS Solutions Group."
