‘Vincenzo’ Removes Chinese Bibimbap Scenes After Controversy
Recently, Song Joongki's trending K-Drama, "Vincenzo," was embroiled in a controversy regarding a specific scene that involves the lead actor and his leading lady, Jeon Yebin, eating a popular Korean rice dish. And now, the team behind the drama has announced some updates about the issue.
"Vincenzo" Chinese Bibimbap Controversy
Song Joong-ki's "Vincenzo" aired its 8th episode on March 14, but the viewers are quick to notice an obvious product placement of a Korean rice dish, Bibimbap. However, what angered the public was that the Bibimbap was by a Chinese brand.
The viewers slammed tvN for accepting a Chinese brand, when Bibimbap is a Korean dish. Some have also raised concerns that because of this obvious product placement, international viewers might mistake Bibimbap as a Chinese dish.
It has been tense between South Korea and China ever since the latter suddenly began claiming that Korea's kimchi, decorative knots, hanbok, taekwondo, and even the country's flag are all Chinese.
Deleted Scenes
Although it was revealed that the product was a collaboration between the Korean brand Chungjungone and China's Zihaiguo, it still caused a huge controversy; therefore, the production decided to edit out the scenes where the product was placed.
The "Vincenzo" team announced on March 31 that they had removed the controversial Chinese Bibimbap scene from platforms such as Netflix. It will take some time to reflect the deletion and re-editing on some other overseas streaming services, but the production team assures that the same measure as with the domestic platforms will be taken.
Moreover, the "Vincenzo" team has also removed the Chinese company logo from the production support mark.
Meanwhile, tvN's "Vincenzo" airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM. For international viewers, you may watch out for the drama through Netflix.
