The 92nd Academy Awards is not spared from implementing adjustments to follow the health protocols in line with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is usually held in big venues with red carpet events featuring Hollywood artists in glamorous fashion, watched live by actors, directors, writers, cinematographers, and more.

Globally, there have been almost 107 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, with more than two million deaths and over 60 million recoveries. CNN reported the good news that cases of the virus had declined 17 percent last week worldwide, despite variants of the virus being detected across various countries.

There will be major changes to the Oscars event this year. It will be live-streamed, instead of the usual live presentation, from multiple locations, including the Dolby Theatre, the organizers announced this week.

It has already been postponed from its original date to April 25th, yet the shortlists were announced earlier. No concrete details have been released yet about how the awards will be presented or whether nominees will attend in-person, news agencies said.

"In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate," the Oscars 2021 spokesperson said. "To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see, while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre. We look forward to sharing more details soon."

No details have also been released yet of where the "multiple locations" will be.

On the other hand, the first set of nominees have been unveiled. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced shortlists in nine categories for Oscars 2021, including Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects.

Among those included on the list of nominees are films "All In: The Fight for Democracy," "My Octopus Teacher," "Welcome to Chechnya," "Soul," and more. Countries Chile, Denmark, Iran, Russia, and Tunisia, among many others, are participating in the best international film award.
