‘Pokemon Go’ Tips: Ditto Details You Should Know To Increase Your Chances Of Catching One
Some Pokemon Go players have not yet completed their Mew Research tasks due to one particular Pokemon. Ditto, that purple blob that has the ability to transform its appearance to mimic other creatures, prove to be elusive and hard to difficult to catch and stalling the research progress for some players.
Ditto is particularly hard to catch because Pokemon Go players won't know when one is around. Unlike other Pokemon, Ditto will not be in his purple blob form when appearing in the wild. Instead, the tricky Pokemon will disguise itself and take the form of another Pokemon. It will only transform back into its real form when it's caught.
Ditto's Limited Transformation Ability
Given the number of creatures out there, Pokemon Go players can't just go on catching everything in sight and hope that at least one of them could be Ditto. Actually, there's one trick that Pokemon Go players should know to increase their chances of catching it. Ditto's transformation ability is rather limited as it can only transform to 11 different types Pokemon.
For Gen 1, Ditto may transform into Pidgey, Rattata, Zubat, and Gastly. For Gen 2, the Ditto might transform into Hoothoot, Sentret or Yanma. On the other hand, Pokemon Go Gen 3's possible Dittos are Taillow, Gulpin, Whismur, Zigzagoon. What this means is that not every Pokemon one finds in the wilderness could be Ditto. This knowledge should narrow down the list of possible suspects.
Other Details On Ditto
Ditto can be used in Pokemon Go Gym battles with rather surprising results. Since Ditto can transform into the opposing Pokemon and even mimic their attack and defense abilities, a high CP Ditto is rather effective in these battles.
During Gym battles, Ditto will transform into the first enemy Pokemon it comes across. It will then mimic the same Pokemon for the rest of the rest of the Gym battle. Knowing this peculiarity might help Pokemon Go players formulate a strategy that takes this into account.
Pokemon Go players must note that Ditto is a Normal Type and does not evolve. Its entry says that "Ditto rearranges its cell structure to transform itself into other shapes. However, if it tries to transform itself into something by relying on its memory, this Pokémon manages to get details wrong."
If Ditto faces another Ditto in a Gym battle, neither will transform. Instead, it will use the move Struggle to settle the match. Stay tuned for more Pokemon Go tips & tricks!
