Red Velvet Receives Positive Reaction From North Korea, Members Share Their Conversation With Kim Jong Un

Red Velvet was one of the most anticipated performances at the North Korea concert. Kim Jong Un was seen watching the concert and even met with some of the performers. The Kpop group had the chance to be face-to-face with the president. 

During the SBS "One Night of TV Entertainment" on April 3, the group talked about their experience at the concert. 

Irene talked about the warm welcome and the applause that they received from the audience. Yeri then mentioned the conversation they had with Kim Jong Un.

"We were so nervous. He said he was the South Korean media reports and that, 'The South was very curious whether I would be meeting Red Velvet or not. Well, here I am today seeing you guys,'" she said. 

The North Korean leader was not supposed to show up until Tuesday so many were surprised when he attended the Sunday performance that was solely for South Korean artists' performances only. He said that it would be meaningful so he made adjustments to his schedule. 

He also said that his visit is to return Moon's attendance at the joint performance held in Seoul in February. 

He is the first North Korean leader to attend a South Korean performance. 

Kim Jong Un came with his wife along with his sister, Kim Yo-jong and North Korea's nominal head of state Kim Yong-nam. 

The North Korean leader also wants the two Koreas to had cultural performances more often. He suggested another event in Seoul. 

The concern included a star-studded lineup such as Seohyun, Baek Ji Young, ALi, Cho Yong Pil, Lee Sun Hee, Yoon Do Hyun, Jung In, and Yoon Sang.

The group members of the Kpop group also expressed their gratitude on being given the chance to perform at the North Korea concert. 

"When I was gasping for air, the audience smiled and cheered me on," Irene said. 

"The audience clapped and even sang along to our songs even more than we expected. Because of that, our nervousness went away," Yeri added. 

Wendy also shared that their main goal is to just give their best at the concert and continue even if they don't get any reactions. They were surprised that the audience was very positive about their performance.
