BTS Billboard Music Awards 2017

Its official.  BTS was announced as the winner of Billboard Music Award's Top Social Artist category beating out global superstars like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes who were also nominated for the category. The win also cements BTS' place in the international music scene as one of the top artists in terms of social influence.

According to a report by Billboard, the overwhelming number of votes for BTS or the Bangtan Boys and the group's consistent strong performance in the Billboard charts were some of the early indicators of a victory for Rap Monster, Jimin, Jin, JHope, Jungkook, Suga and V. When the boys took the BBMA's Maganta Carpet, they were also met with tons of screaming supporters of different nationalities bearing plackards and signages with their name and faces.

It came as no surprise that the fans were one of the first to receive credit in BTS' victory speech. "We still cannot believe we're standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards... Most importantly, this award belongs to the every people all around the world that shine the love and light on us by the million and make BTS proud," they said as they accepted the award.

IT can be recalled that the BTS' ARMY, considered one of the most formidable fandoms in the world, was responsible for propelling BTS' MVs to record number of views in the fastest periods of time like the case for their recent hits "Spring Day" which was the fastest video to reach 20 million views, and "Not Today" with the record of the most number of views within a 24 hour period. As soon as voting opened for BTS as Top Social Artist in the Billboard Music Awards 2017, ARMY did not waste any time and got busy to trend the topic on Twitter, Korea Portal earlier reported.

The official BBMA Twitter account also announced that BTS managed to achieve a record number of votes, amassing 20 million votes in a span of the first 18 hours. This also caused some of the BBMA servers to crash, the BBMAs admitted sheepishly in their post.
