'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Spoilers: Will HBO Fulfill The 'R+L=J Theory' Or Will They Marry Off Jon Snow And Daenerys Targaryen?
Ever since HBO's "Game of Thrones" confirmed last year that Jon Snow was indeed the son of Lyanna Stark and not the bastard son Ned Stark as earlier believed, speculations have been off the roof if the show will follow the "R+L=J" theory. Fans of George RR Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga, on which the show is based, have for years believed that Jon's parents are Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, the eldest brother of Daenerys Targaryen.
This makes the King of the North Jon Snow a very important character in "Game of Thrones" because he carries with him the blood of the dragon and those of the lords of Winterfell. Many fans believe that he is the personification of the saga's title - fire and ice. This was further proven when he came back to life with the aid of the red woman Melisandre who resurrected him with the power of the Lord of the Light, Digital Spy reported.
There is a strong possibility that showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss will tap into the theory going forward because the series has already overtaken the source material written by George RR Martin as of last season. "Game of Thrones" completed the airing of its sixth season last year and is set to embark on its seventh and eighth seasons in 2017 and 2018 even though the author has yet to release the sixth book in the series. This means that "Game of Thrones" will be tackling the events of the yet to be written "A Dream of Spring" which is intended to be the final book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga.
However, there are strong calls from fans who are shipping the pairing of Jon Snow with the Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. In an interview with Metro UK, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the series, she said there is a strong possibility that they will end up together as the power couple of Westeros.
Leaked photos from the set have already shown images of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen meeting in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. This does mean that they're already romantically connected, unfortunately for shippers. Some fans are suggesting that could be that they're forming an alliance against Cersei Lannister who currently holds the Iron Throne. Along with this is the possibility that Daenerys could be Jon Snow's aunt if the show goes with the "R+L=J" theory.
Unless the showrunners decide to supplant Rhaegar Targaryen with another father for Jon Snow, any romance with Daenerys would be incest and with Jamie and Cersei Lannister already engaging in incest, it may be a difficult concept for fans of the series to accept.
