Beloved characters of the Fox series "Bones" have had to deal with different types of death given their profession. However, Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) relationship suffered a hit after the Jeffersonian forensic anthropologist's father died and it took her old friend Sully (Eddie McClintock) to change the married couple's relationship.

Brennan's former beau Sully finally made an appearance in "Bones" Season 12 episode 8. Titled "The Grief and the Girl," Sully made a surprise visit at the Jeffersonian to check up on Brennan and see how she has been holding up after her father's death.

Aired on Feb. 21, Tuesday, it appears that Sully's visit was what Brennan needed to break down the walls that she created to shield herself from the pain of losing her father. However, the said walls also kept her husband out and she even requested for some time alone so she could deal with her grief.

Given Sully's reappearance, avid viewers of the Fox series were apprehensive that the former couple's romance might be rekindled. With Brennan in a vulnerable state, many fans speculated that she might fight comfort in Sully's arms and it will affect her relationship with Booth moving forward.

However, McClintock told TVLine that Sully's visit was a move to show his support for a good friend. Despite Sully and Brennan's failed romance, the two remained friends even if they have been apart for the past 10 years.

When asked whether Sully's presence will impact Booth and Brennan's relationship, the actor commented that the said FBI agent is "secure enough" to know that he has a deeper bond with his wife. McClintock added, "He knows that, despite the fact that they may drift apart and drift back, he loves her and he believes she loves him. I don't think he really sees [Sully] as a threat."

Meanwhile, with the impending end of the Fox series, avid fans of "Bones" can expect to see the return of a few familiar faces, as well as intriguing storylines. In an earlier interview with TVGuide, showrunner Jonathan Collier even described the final season as an "exciting rollercoaster."

"Bones" Season 12 is nearing the final leg of its last chapter. With the Fox series set to go on a short one-week break, the next episode will be released on March 7, Tuesday.
