BTOB's Changsub has been offered to play Gu Jun Pyu in a musical remake of the hit 2009 TV series "Boys Over Flowers."

The artist's management label Cube Entertainment announced Thursday that the 25-year-old lead vocalist of the boy group BTOB has been cast for the lead role of the Japanese manga series.

"Changsub was recently offered a role for 'Boys Over Flowers'. It's currently in the adjustment stages," stated Cube Entertainment.

The 2009 Korean version of the popular manga made stars out of Lee Min Ho, Ku Hye Sun, SS501's Kim Hyun Joong and Kim Bum.

His portrayal of the Gu Jun Pyo's character made Lee Min Ho a top Hallyu star. He has since appeared in several hit dramas "City Hunter" (2011), "The Heirs" (2013) and "The Legend of the Blue Sea" (2016). He also starred in the 2015 noir action film "Gangnam Blues" and Chinese film "Bounty Hunters" last year.

Though the 29-year-old star considers "Boys Over Flowers" as the turning point in his career, he admits he couldn't bear watching the series.

"I can't help but cringe," Soompi quoted him as saying on MBC's "Section TV".

"It's so cheesy," he added. "I really had no other option."

The manga has also been adapted into the 2005 Japanese "Hana Yori Dango" starring the Japanese idol Jun Matsumota as Domyouji Tsukasa and 2001 Taiwanese "Meteor Garden" which was a phenomenally pan-Asian hit. It starred Barbie Hsu as Shancai and F4 members Jerry Yan as Dao Ming Si, Vic Zhou as Hua Ze Lei, Ken Chu as Xi Men and Vanness Wu as Mei Zuo.

Taiwanese star Jerry Yan, now 39 and the only unmarried F4 member to date, continued to star in a number of drama series as well as record albums after "Meteor Garden."

The youngest F4 member who's now 35, Vic Zhou, became the most successful of the series as he became a recognized actor. He also dated co-star Barbie Hsu, five years his senior, from 2005 to 2008.

Ken Chu, 37, and Vanness Wu, 38, also launched their solo singing and acting careers.
