Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Just Swept All 7 Emmys
"The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny" won all seven Emmys it was nominated for at Saturday night's Creative Arts Emmy Awards, making it the most Emmy-awarded Super Bowl halftime performance in the category's history and giving the Puerto Rican star his first Emmy win.
The sweep included Outstanding Variety Special (Live) - only the second Super Bowl halftime show ever to win the category's top prize, after the 2022 show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar - and marked the first time a Spanish-language program has won it. The other six trophies went to director Hamish Hamilton, his third Emmy for a Super Bowl halftime show in four years after wins for Rihanna's 2023 performance and the 2024 Oscars; Brazilian music director Miguel Gandelman; choreographers Charm La'Donna and Karina Ortiz; production designer Bruce Rodgers; and the show's technical direction and sound mixing teams. Jay-Z, a producer on the halftime show, picked up his own third Emmy in the category, having previously won for Kendrick Lamar's 2025 performance.
The 13-minute show, which saluted the sights and sounds of Puerto Rico and brought out Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin as guests, entered the ceremony with nine nominations - a record for a music special that broke the mark Lady Gaga had held since 2017 - and converted seven of those into wins. Accepting one of the awards, Gandelman described the logistics behind the production: "The hardest part for me was catching Benito on tour. I had to record the band, so I had to go to Colombia."
Saturday's ceremony was the first of two Creative Arts nights building toward the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14, hosted by Mariska Hargitay. Sabrina Carpenter also picked up her first Emmy that night, winning Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) as performer and executive producer of Disney+'s "The Muppet Show" reboot - beating out Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour | The Final Show" in the category.
The win adds to a run that already includes a Grammy: Bad Bunny's "Debí Tirar Más Fotos" became the first Spanish-language album to win Album of the Year earlier this year, and his supporting stadium tour has sold out venues across Latin America, Europe, and Asia - everywhere, notably, except North America. With a Grammy and now an Emmy, Bad Bunny is halfway to an EGOT.
