Two sources told CNN on Tuesday that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will hold their wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden this week - a rehearsal event tonight, July 1, followed by the main celebration on Friday, July 2, with approximately 1,100 guests expected to attend. Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed the date or venue.

The confirmation, such as it is, has been assembled piece by piece over the past two weeks. A permit application filed with New York City's Street Activity Permit Office requests street closures around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to midday July 4. A city official told the New York Times the permit was for a wedding. Amtrak police officers stationed at Penn Station - which sits directly beneath the arena - told the Times they had been told to expect a Swift wedding that weekend. NYPD officers told Variety they had been briefed on a potential influx of fans and paparazzi. Several Kansas City Chiefs players, including confirmed guest George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, have booked rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, a 16-minute walk from the venue.

NBC News reported Tuesday that invitees received electronic invitations alongside non-disclosure agreements. Multiple musical performances are expected throughout the evening. The event planning firm Winick Productions filed the permit application and outlined that the setup would require a tent or canopy outside the arena, with 500 to 999 attendees listed - the main celebration is now reported by multiple outlets to exceed 1,100.

Kelce proposed in August 2025. Swift announced the engagement on social media the same day with a single photograph and no caption. In the months since, speculation about the wedding reached a level that the couple appeared to lean into rather than deflect. Swift attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals at MSG on June 10. Kelce mentioned on his podcast that the reception would feature plenty of Garage Beer, his own brand. When Kittle told Entertainment Tonight he had no idea where the wedding was, he added: "I actually asked Travis last night and he laughed at me."

The timing places the celebration in the middle of America's 250th birthday weekend - the city will simultaneously host a flotilla of tall ships on July 4 and the annual fireworks display. New York is already crowded with World Cup tourists following weeks of matches. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, asked about the event at a press conference Tuesday, declined to confirm details but said: "If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it's a good example to set for the city at large."

MSG is a strange choice on its face - a midtown arena known primarily for boxing, basketball, and hockey. It also has no natural light, limited parking, and sits above one of the busiest train stations in the country. What it has is an impenetrable exterior, multiple entrances, and a staff that, as CNN noted, claimed to know nothing about the wedding when canvassed on Tuesday - one of whom was wearing a crew shirt from a former Swift tour.

The streets close tonight.
