IVE's "BANG BANG" Hits No. 1 Worldwide on YouTube — What the Charts Say Before REVIVE+ Drops
IVE dropped its pre-release single "BANG BANG" on February 9 and didn't wait long for results. The track hit No. 1 on Melon's HOT100 on release day, climbed to No. 4 on the TOP100 by the evening of February 11, and topped YouTube's worldwide music video trending chart within 48 hours. On iTunes, it entered the Top 10 K-pop Songs chart in 23 countries and regions and the overall Top Songs chart in 18 - charting across 26 markets in total. Bugs, Genie, Vibe, and Flo all logged the song near the top of their real-time charts as well.
The group performs "BANG BANG" live for the first time on Mnet's M Countdown on February 12. The full second studio album, REVIVE+, follows on February 23.
Harder Sound, Sharper Image
"BANG BANG" runs on EDM and electronic production, opening with a Western swing intro before settling into straight-ahead beats and a hook built for the stage. It's the most aggressively produced track IVE has led with to date - and a clear break from the polished, high-teen sound the group rode to prominence after its December 2021 debut.
The music video, directed by Bang Jae-yeob and filmed on location in Trieste, Italy, puts the group in outlaw roles pursuing treasure across settings that mix Brutalist concrete architecture with open desert landscapes. "WANTED" posters appear throughout. The Western genre references are there, but deliberately subverted: revolvers are replaced by camera flashes, and the standard cowboy imagery gives way to something more stylized and contemporary. Leather outfits, smoky makeup, and red-lit interiors complete the look.
Fan responses have been divided. A portion of the audience has welcomed the harder concept as overdue growth; others have found the sound less distinctive than the group's earlier work. The chart numbers, for now, favor the former reading.
Jang Wonyoung and a Familiar Writing Team
Member Jang Wonyoung co-wrote the lyrics - a role she's taken on consistently across IVE's catalog, including title tracks "ATTITUDE" and "XOXZ" and b-sides "OTT" and "Blue Heart." The rest of the writing team includes Seo Ji Eum, who has contributed to IVE songs since "ELEVEN"; Hwang Yubin of XYXX; and EXY of WJSN.
Lyrically, the song stays close to IVE's recurring theme of self-determination. Lines like "I don't care what you say," "this is my way," and "catch me if you can" push that theme harder than previous releases, with less softening through empathy or connection. The track is deliberately inward-facing.
IVE's Pre-Release Playbook
This is the third time IVE has used a pre-release single to build heat before a major album drop - and all three have charted. "Kitsch" preceded the 2023 debut studio album I've IVE; "Rebel Heart" opened the third EP IVE Empathy in 2025. In both cases, the pre-release drove anticipation rather than simply previewing the project.
"BANG BANG" appears to be following the same pattern ahead of REVIVE+, whose title track "BLACKHOLE" has yet to be officially released. The full album is expected to include solo tracks for each member alongside group material.
