BLACKPINK's Rosé got emotional talking about her love life on the January 28 episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, sharing an unexpected confession: she once spent six months disguising herself as an elderly woman to keep her relationship private.

The singer explained she became so anxious about being spotted that she bought a curly black wig online and studied how older women dressed on the streets. "I would go to his house because we couldn't go anywhere else," she said during the podcast special filmed across Seoul. Her disguise wardrobe grew so extensive that she kept an entire closet section dedicated to grandmother-style clothing, including flowery long skirts and coats.

In a funny twist, Rosé later noticed her real grandmother wearing one of the same coats from her disguise collection.

Why K-pop Stars Struggle With Public Dating

When Cooper asked if she's currently dating, Rosé teared up. "Even being asked that question makes me anxious," she admitted. "I immediately think about what headlines will come from this."

The 28-year-old explained that simply answering "yes" or "no" triggers concerns about being defined by her relationships rather than her artistry. "Just because I'm from a K-pop group doesn't make me a different kind of human," she said. "We feel the same things everyone else does."

Rosé emphasized her priority is protecting the people she cares about. While she's comfortable with public attention as part of her job, she worries about loved ones facing criticism because of their connection to her.

Her dating history has been limited to people within the entertainment industry, with varying experiences. One early relationship involved a partner who seemed hesitant about being seen together, which made her insecure at the time. Later relationships with more prominent figures took opposite approaches-they wanted to be bolder and more public, often asking why they couldn't when she expressed concerns.

BLACKPINK's Democratic Approach to Group Decisions

The podcast conversation also touched on BLACKPINK's future after their 2023 contract renewal. Rosé clarified that all four members-herself, Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa-make decisions collectively.

"If one of us feels like something isn't the right thing at that time, we're all in agreement," she said. "Like any relationship, if one person isn't ready for something, it should be respected."

She defended their recent hiatus as necessary after working nonstop since their 2016 debut. "We're also growing up right now, and we haven't had enough time to be ourselves or explore that ever," she explained.

That break allowed significant solo achievements: Rosé's "APT." collaboration with Bruno Mars won Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards and earned three Grammy nominations (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance). Lisa starred in The White Lotus Season 3 and launched her LLOUD label, Jennie created fashion brand ODD ATELIER, and Jisoo released solo music including a collaboration with Zayn Malik.

Group Comeback After Nearly Four Years

BLACKPINK will release their third mini album Deadline on February 27, 2026-their first group project since the 2022 album Born Pink. The five-track EP follows their sold-out Deadline World Tour, which concluded January 26 in Hong Kong after 33 shows across 16 cities.

The tour made history when BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to headline London's Wembley Stadium. The album is expected to include their comeback single "Jump," which hit number one on the Billboard Global 200 and reached number 28 on the US Hot 100 after its July 2025 release.

During the podcast, Rosé confirmed one track will feature an undisclosed collaborator, building anticipation for the release. The Call Her Daddy special included segments at a Seoul café, Rosé's recording studio, and a traditional Korean pocha restaurant where she taught Cooper how to make somaek-a popular cocktail mixing beer with soju.
