Korea's premier hip-hop competition is making a comeback. Show Me The Money 12 premieres January 15, 2026 at 9:20 PM KST on Mnet and TVING, ending a three-year hiatus that left fans wondering if the series was finished for good.

The promotional rollout has already broken records. Teaser content released across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram has racked up over 22 million views, signaling strong appetite for the show's return despite the lengthy gap since Season 11 wrapped in December 2022.

Why the Long Wait?

After Lee Young-ji became the first female winner in the franchise's history during Season 11's controversial finale, speculation swirled about the show's future. The series had run continuously from 2012 through 2022, making the sudden silence unusual.

Mnet's success with RAP:PUBLIC-a hip-hop competition co-produced with streaming platform TVING in 2023-appears to have paved the way for Show Me The Money's comeback. Season 12 marks the first time the flagship series has partnered with TVING for co-production and simultaneous streaming.

Four Producer Teams Take the Stage

The Season 12 lineup features established names and proven chemistry:

ZICO & Crush pair two members of the FANXY CHILD crew who've collaborated on hits like "Oasis" and "BERMUDA TRIANGLE." ZICO returns for his third Show Me The Money appearance after winning Season 6.

GRAY & Loco bring complementary experience-GRAY as a winning producer from Season 5, and Loco as Season 1's champion before transitioning to producer roles.

J-Tong & Hukky Shibaseki represent newer generation perspectives in Korean hip-hop.

Lil Moshpit & Jay Park reunite after competing on opposite teams in Season 11. Jay Park, making his fourth producer appearance, won Season 11 with Lee Young-ji on his team.

Broadcasting Gets an Upgrade

The Mnet-TVING partnership isn't just about streaming access. Chief producer Choi Hyo-jin described plans for "a differentiated narrative unique to TVING" that will create what she called a "two-track universe" between traditional TV and OTT platforms.

The show also moves to a 9:20 PM Thursday timeslot-earlier than the 11 PM Friday slot used for previous seasons. Global audiences can watch via the Mnet Plus app with live streaming and video-on-demand.

Lee Young-ji Cypher Sparks Massive Interest

Among the pre-premiere content, a cypher featuring Season 11 winner Lee Young-ji generated over 2.3 million views during the August-September contestant recruitment period. Additional cypher videos with past winners Superbee and Just This helped drive early buzz.

The main trailer, previewing contestants including High School Rapper 2 champion HAON, Korean-American rapper Minami, Thai rapper MILLI, and others, has surpassed 4.1 million views.

Demand for the "Producer Special Performance" was intense-approximately 15,000 people applied for live audience tickets during the December 19-24 application period.

What Made Season 11 So Controversial?

Lee Young-ji's victory sparked heated debates in Korean hip-hop circles. Critics questioned whether her existing celebrity and entertainment presence gave her unfair advantages in fan voting. Her win margin over second place was substantial, fueling arguments about whether the competition properly measured rap skills versus popularity.

The controversy grew intense enough that some observers wondered if the series would continue. Lee Young-ji herself addressed the criticism, acknowledging the complexity while defending her participation and artistic ambitions.

The Stakes for Season 12

Since its 2012 debut, Show Me The Money has launched careers for rappers including Loco, Swings, Mad Clown, BewhY, and others who became fixtures in Korean hip-hop. The show's ability to produce chart-topping songs-with multiple seasons achieving Perfect All-Kill status across music platforms-proved hip-hop could dominate mainstream Korean charts.

Whether Season 12 can recapture that cultural impact after a three-year break remains the biggest question. The record application numbers and massive pre-premiere engagement suggest the audience is ready, but the show faces pressure to address criticisms about voting systems and format issues raised during Season 11.

With four experienced producer teams, a dual-platform approach, and what Mnet describes as unprecedented scale for the show's return, Season 12 aims to prove Korea's longest-running hip-hop survival show hasn't lost its edge.

Show Me The Money 12 begins Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 9:20 PM KST on Mnet and TVING.
