BTS Jin Becomes Double Million Seller: 'HAPPY' Album Surpasses 3 Million Sales
Jin's debut mini-album 'HAPPY' hit double million seller status after crossing one million copies on both Hanteo Chart and Circle Chart. Released November 15, the six-track album has now exceeded three million total sales on Circle Chart, cementing the BTS member's commercial power as a solo artist.
The album sold 953,886 copies in its first week on Hanteo Chart, while Circle Chart reported 1,002,994 first-week sales. That immediate performance made Jin a double million seller right out of the gate, with sustained demand pushing cumulative Circle sales past the three million mark.
Record-Breaking First Week Performance
Day one numbers told the story-845,690 copies moved on Hanteo Chart, claiming the top daily spot. That single-day figure beat the entire first-week total from Jin's 2022 single 'The Astronaut', which sold 770,126 copies. The momentum never slowed.
Jin's earlier work set high bars. 'The Astronaut' became Circle Chart's fastest solo album to reach a million copies, hitting 1,024,382 sales just 19 days after its October 28, 2022 release. It was the first solo single album ever to get million seller certification from both Circle Chart and Korea Music Content Association. The single also grabbed 17th place on Circle's 2022 year-end rankings-the highest any solo single album had ever placed.
'HAPPY' topped those benchmarks. Jin completed his military service in June 2024, and he's returned with stronger commercial traction than when he left.
Japan Awards Platinum Certification
The Recording Industry Association of Japan gave 'HAPPY' platinum certification after the album passed 250,000 cumulative shipments in November. It's Jin's first platinum cert as a solo artist-'The Astronaut' earned gold (100,000+ units).
Japanese charts reflected the demand. 'HAPPY' hit number one on Oricon's Weekly Digital Album Ranking for November 11-17 despite only three days of tracking. Release day alone saw roughly 220,000 copies sold, topping Oricon's Daily Album Ranking and making it 2024's best-selling K-pop solo album on Oricon in a single day.
Jin became the fourth Korean solo artist to move over 200,000 albums in Japan within the first week. Billboard Japan's 2024 year-end chart ranked 'HAPPY' at number 19, marking the year's highest-selling K-pop solo release.
Global Charts and Streaming Dominance
iTunes Top Albums charts across 48 countries put 'HAPPY' at number one. The title track 'Running Wild' topped iTunes Top Songs in 70 territories-Australia, Finland, Brazil among them.
Spotify numbers were equally strong. 'Running Wild' debuted at number eight globally with 4,936,542 first-day streams-Jin's highest solo peak on the platform. The track also grabbed the top spot on Oricon's Daily Digital Singles chart in Japan on November 15 and reportedly set a streaming record as the highest-performing K-pop track (solo or group) ever on Spotify Japan's Daily Top Songs chart.
The Billboard 200 saw 'HAPPY' enter at number four with roughly 71,000 equivalent units first week. That made Jin the seventh and final BTS member to land a solo top 10 album on the chart, completing the group's sweep.
Top Solo Artist of 2024
Hanteo Chart's 2024 year-end rankings named Jin the top-selling solo artist despite the album's mid-November release. 'HAPPY' sold 973,093 copies with a physical record index of 1,246,501 points. The album finished 20th overall on Hanteo's 2024 list, competing against group releases available all year. That's concentrated impact in a compressed window.
Six Tracks, Full Chart Success
'HAPPY' explores Jin's take on happiness through six tracks: title track 'Running Wild', 'I'll Be There' (pre-released October 25), 'Another Level', 'Falling', 'Heart on the Window' featuring Red Velvet's Wendy, and 'I Will Come to You'.
All six entered Spotify's Daily Top Songs Global chart: 'I'll Be There' at 20, 'Heart on the Window' at 99, 'Another Level' at 106, 'Falling' at 115, and 'I Will Come to You' at 124. The whole album charted, not just the single.
Sustained Sales Trajectory
Circle Chart shows 'HAPPY' passing three million cumulative copies-evidence of ongoing demand rather than front-loaded spikes typical in some K-pop releases. The pattern Jin set with 'The Astronaut' holds: domestic success, international reach, strong physicals, solid streaming.
Moving from single to mini-album, Jin proved he can handle larger projects while expanding his commercial footprint. Double million seller status on both major Korean charts plus three million total on Circle Chart puts him among Korea's top solo sellers. His numbers compete with established solo acts, showing he's built independent commercial strength beyond BTS momentum.
