DAY6's Young K Surpasses G-Dragon with 216 Registered Songs on KOMCA
DAY6 bassist and vocalist Young K has revealed he now has more songs registered with Korea's copyright association than his longtime role model G-Dragon, sparking widespread attention in the K-pop community.
The revelation came during Young K and bandmate Dowoon's appearance on the December 1, 2025 episode of YouTube show "Jjanhan Bro Shin Dongyup," where Young K disclosed he has 216 songs registered with the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).
Quantity Over Quality Strategy
When informed he currently ranks ahead of G-Dragon in total registered songs, Young K acknowledged the earnings gap, stating the difference in royalties is "incomparable," but confirmed he has more songs by sheer volume.
"If I can't win with quality, I'll win with quantity," Young K explained, revealing his strategy of releasing music continuously and ensuring his name appeared on every collaboration regardless of his contribution level.
Survival-Driven Work Ethic
Young K attributed his prolific output to necessity rather than ambition. He explained that songwriting and composing were "survival methods," adding that he couldn't have debuted without bringing quality material to the table.
The DAY6 member has been involved in writing nearly all of the band's songs since their September 2015 debut. His credits extend beyond DAY6 to include work with artists like UP10TION, GOT7, Eric Nam, H1-KEY, and Xdinary Heroes.
Copyright Registration Context
G-Dragon, widely regarded as one of K-pop's most influential songwriters and producers, currently has 181 songs registered with KOMCA as of August 2025. Young K's 216 registered works now place him ahead in total song count, though G-Dragon remains a full member of KOMCA-a distinction requiring substantial royalty earnings beyond simple registration numbers.
The Korea Music Copyright Association registers artists who participate in song composition, lyrics, or arrangements, providing official credit and royalty collection for their creative contributions. BTS leader RM currently holds second place among K-pop idols with 217 registered songs.
Young K's achievement highlights the evolving landscape of K-pop, where idol-producers increasingly control their creative output and build substantial song catalogs throughout their careers.
