TWICE Breaks Billboard Records and Makes K-Pop History at Lollapalooza 2024

K-pop sensation TWICE has achieved unprecedented success this summer, setting new Billboard Hot 100 records while becoming the first female K-pop group to headline a major U.S. music festival.
TWICE's "Strategy" has reached a career-high No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated August 5, 2024, jumping 18 positions from its previous week debut at No. 92. This marks the group's highest-ever chart position in their nine-year career.
The resurgence comes eight months after the song's December 2023 release, gaining renewed momentum through its inclusion in the Netflix "K-Pop Demon Hunters" soundtrack. "TAKEDOWN," performed by members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung, simultaneously holds the No. 67 position, making TWICE the first JYP Entertainment act to chart two songs simultaneously on the Hot 100.
On August 2, 2024, TWICE made festival history as the first K-pop girl group to headline Lollapalooza Chicago at Grant Park. The performance featured elaborate production including a live backing band, additional dancers, and a spectacular drone show displaying "The honmoon is sealed" - referencing their anime soundtrack contribution.
The setlist spanned their decade-long career with fan favorites including "Talk That Talk," "Moonlight Sunrise," "One Spark," and the live debut of "TAKEDOWN". The show concluded with fireworks over the Chicago skyline, cementing their place alongside previous K-pop headliners including BTS's J-Hope (2022), Tomorrow X Together (2023), and Stray Kids (2023).
The weekend's highlights continued when TWICE members Momo, Sana, and Jihyo attended Sabrina Carpenter's August 3 headlining performance. Carpenter spotted the trio during her signature "Juno Arrest" segment, playfully "arresting" them with pink handcuffs while asking "Are you guys single?" and jokingly proposing marriage.
"I had to look not once, but twice," Carpenter quipped, referencing the group's name as cameras projected the members on big screens. The interaction highlighted their friendship, with Carpenter having previously presented TWICE with the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music Awards.
TWICE, who debuted October 20, 2015, is celebrating their ninth anniversary with strategic content releases. The group's current success demonstrates their sustained relevance, with "Strategy" proving that K-pop tracks can find new life through strategic media placements months after release.
This achievement marks TWICE's fourth Billboard Hot 100 entry, following "The Feels" (No. 83), "MOONLIGHT SUNRISE" (No. 84), and their previous "Takedown" peak. Their streaming numbers on Spotify U.S. reflect this success, with both tracks securing top 50 positions.
TWICE's groundbreaking Lollapalooza performance and Billboard achievements underscore K-pop's growing mainstream acceptance, proving that after nearly a decade, the group remains at the forefront of the genre's global expansion.
