RM SFMOMA Tickets: 'Between You and Me' Opens Oct. 3
Ten days before it opens, RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me is already running short on room. Weekday tickets are wide open through the fall, but the first several Saturdays for the exhibition, which opens October 3, are gone.
The show pairs nearly 200 works from RM's personal collection with pieces from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's own holdings, running through February 7, 2027. It's the BTS leader's first museum exhibition built around his own collection, and its only stop in the United States. General public tickets went on sale August 11, after a members-only reservation window a week earlier that sold out its preview slots.
RM curated the show himself, working with SFMOMA's América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim to place Korean modern and contemporary artists - Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong, Chang Ucchin - alongside SFMOMA pieces by Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Klee and Korean painter Kim Whanki. Many of the Korean works have never been shown publicly in the US.
"We live in an age defined by boundaries," RM said in a statement released with the exhibition announcement. "This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal. I don't want to prescribe how these works should be seen... My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many."
The New York Times called the pairing something with "no obvious parallel." SFMOMA has leaned into that framing since the Encore Pass went on sale alongside general admission - a $75 add-on that allows unlimited repeat visits through the exhibition's run and can later be applied toward a full SFMOMA membership.
Admission isn't cheap. Regular museum entry runs $30, plus a $10 surcharge on weekdays or $12 on weekends and holidays - $40 to $42 total for non-members. Visitors 18 and younger get in free, and SFMOMA members pay nothing beyond their membership, though every visitor, member or not, still needs a timed ticket.
This isn't RM's first pass at art patronage. In 2020, on his 27th birthday, he donated $84,000 to Korea's National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation to reprint and distribute Korean art books to libraries and schools nationwide. In 2022, he narrated the audio guide for LACMA's "The Space Between: The Modern in Korean Art." Between You and Me is the first time he's built an exhibition entirely around what he's collected for himself.
SFMOMA members get one more shot at the space before the public does: a preview window runs October 1 through 3. After that, it's open through February - for whichever Saturdays are still available.
