Stray Kids Just Slowed Down. It's the Point.
Stray Kids released their tenth mini album, "THIS & THAT," at 1 p.m. KST Friday - their first Korean comeback in roughly nine months, and a deliberate change of pace from the group that built its identity on intensity.
The title track, also called "This & That," was written and produced by 3RACHA - the in-house unit of Bang Chan, Changbin and Han that has had a hand in every Stray Kids release since debut - but this one sounds different from what 3RACHA usually hands the group. Where songs like "God's Menu" and "MANIAC" ran on aggression, "This & That" settles into a relaxed hip-hop groove built for confidence rather than confrontation. Changbin told the Korea Times the group intentionally toned down the rougher edges that have defined their sound, adding that repeating the same formula would cost them their own interest in the music. The eight-track album carries that shift across genres rather than one lane: "RUN IT" blends brass with world-beat rhythm, "After You" leans into progressive house, "I Do" pulls from rock, and "Way Out" closes on acoustic hip-hop built around a breakup that's already settled rather than raw.
The timing isn't incidental. Stray Kids is mid-run on its "RUN IT" world tour, having just wrapped five KSPO Dome shows in Seoul before this release - meaning the group dropped new music into a tour already in motion rather than waiting for promotion to end first. Changbin said as much himself: after a run of Seoul shows last month, he wanted that energy to carry directly into the album rather than sit between two separate cycles.
Whether a calmer Stray Kids converts the same way a louder one did is the open question the charts will answer over the next few weeks. The comeback trailer already gave an early signal: it hit No. 1 on YouTube Music's Worldwide Music Video Trending chart within hours of its July release, a sign the fandom is engaged regardless of the tonal shift. The group has never released an album this deliberately unbothered before. Now it's out, mid-tour, with no encore planned to explain it.
