They have decided to remain good colleagues." Management Allum followed with an identical shape of statement: "It is true that they have broken up. Girls' Generation's Sooyoung and actor Jung Kyung-ho had been together since 2012. They went public in January 2014 after both agencies denied the relationship multiple times the previous year. For the next 12 years, they were one of the few Korean celebrity couples to stay visible without incident - appearing in each other's interviews, photographed on trips abroad, mentioned by name in press roundtables in a context where most K-pop artists still describe partners in pronouns.
The first public signal came on June 9, before either agency had said anything. Fans noticed that Jung Kyung-ho had removed Sooyoung from his Instagram follows. Shortly after, Sooyoung removed him. Screenshots circulated within hours. What drew particular attention was that Jung Kyung-ho posted an Instagram Story of their shared dog, Hoyoung - a name reportedly combining the "Ho" from Kyung-ho and the "Young" from Sooyoung - roughly seven hours before reports broke. He then unfollowed her mother's account.
Both agencies cited "busy schedules" as a factor. The explanation landed badly with most observers. Jung Kyung-ho said in a 2025 interview with Chosun Biz that there was "nothing to hide or brag about" regarding the relationship, and described it as simply public knowledge. He described Sooyoung as "the center of his life outside of acting" in a SpoTV News interview the same year. As recently as 2024, they were photographed together at Sydney Zoo. The "busy schedules" framing in the context of a 14-year relationship has generated considerable skepticism online, with fans pointing out the couple had navigated busier periods without issue.
The breakup arrives during an active stretch for both. Sooyoung recently wrapped filming commitments; Jung Kyung-ho is reportedly attached to a new project. Neither has posted on social media since the confirmation.
