Sixteen years after debuting with f(x), Krystal Jung is releasing her first solo single "Solitary" on November 27, with a CD-exclusive party remix available only to physical album buyers.

Release Details & Pre-Orders

Beasts and Natives Alike announced November 13 that Krystal's debut single drops November 27 at 6 PM KST across all streaming platforms. Physical album pre-orders ran from November 13-21 at major Korean retailers.

The physical CD includes a party remix of "Solitary" that won't be available digitally-a move designed to reward collectors with exclusive content.

Toro y Moi Partnership

"Solitary" was produced in collaboration with Toro y Moi (Chaz Bear), the American artist credited with pioneering chillwave alongside Washed Out and Neon Indian in the early 2010s. The partnership signals a shift toward atmospheric, electronic-influenced sounds rather than f(x)'s experimental K-pop style.

Behind-the-Scenes Documentary

Krystal documented the entire process in "Charging Crystals," a YouTube series launched November 6 on her agency's channel. The first episode shows recording sessions across London, Jeju Island's House of Refuge studio, and San Francisco where she worked directly with Toro y Moi.

In the documentary, Krystal admitted she'd "never really done a vocal warm-up since debut" and described the music as "the kind I love but haven't tried before." She called it a personal challenge that pushes beyond her comfort zone.

From f(x) to Solo Artist

Krystal debuted with f(x) in September 2009 with "La Cha Ta." The group became known for complex electronic tracks like "Electric Shock" and "NU ABO" that attracted devoted fans but stepped back from group activities in 2016.

While f(x) never officially disbanded, members pursued individual careers. Krystal focused almost exclusively on acting, leaving music behind for nearly a decade.

Acting Career Success

Her performance as Han Yu-rim in Kim Jee-woon's "Cobweb" (2023) earned her Best New Actress at the 33rd Buil Film Awards. The film premiered at Cannes and received a 10-12 minute standing ovation.

Krystal will appear in tvN's "How to Become a Building Owner in Korea" alongside Ha Jung-woo and Im Soo-jung, scheduled for first half 2026. The thriller follows a debt-ridden building owner caught up in a kidnapping scheme gone wrong.

What to Expect

"Solitary" serves as a pre-release single ahead of Krystal's full solo album, though no timeline has been announced for the complete project.

After signing with Beasts and Natives Alike-a company specializing in music production-in 2024, Krystal signaled her intention to return to music after years focused on acting. The choice of Toro y Moi as producer suggests a mature, indie-leaning sound distinct from mainstream K-pop.

Physical copies ship with the exclusive party remix, making them more valuable to fans who want the complete experience beyond streaming.
