Star Wars 8 Movie Theories: Rey is a Clone of Luke Skywalker? 3 Reasons It is Possible

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" holds many mysteries including Luke Skywalker's role. Rey, who is the new movie's central character, is also an enigma. Nobody knows why she was on Jakku or where her parents are. All these questions will probably remain unanswered until the next installment comes out. In the mean time, fans are trying to solve the current film's biggest mystery: How is Rey related to Luke Skywalker?

It's no suprise that fans claim Rey is a Skywalker. After all, there's always a Skywalker at the center of all the movies, and Rey is the main character in "The Force Awakens." According to Movie Pilot, early teasers of the seventh installment have hinted that Rey is a member of the Skywalker clan.

"The Force is strong in my family. I have it, my father has it, my sister has it. You have that power too..."

Skywalker's narration implies that he's talking to a member of the family, although it wasn't revealed whom he was talking to since he only had a few seconds of screen time. Of course, this would add to the speculations that he's related to Rey.

Another hint lies in the scene where Kylo Ren interrogates Rey and gets in her head using The Force. Upon reading her mind, Kylo says, "You imagine an ocean. I see it, I see the island." It was later on revealed in the final minutes of the film that Luke Skywalker was indeed hiding on an island in the middle of an ocean.

While there are several theories on Rey's father, there isn't a lot about who her mother is.

"Rogue One," the franchise's first standalone film will be released on December this year, and will feature Felicity Jones in the lead role. Her character in the film, presumably named Lyra Erso, is one of the resistance fighters who steal the blueprints for the first Death Star prior to the one in 1977's "A New Hope." Naturally, fans speculate that "Rogue One" will tie into the main saga's storyline by introducing Lyra as Rey's mother.

Of course, there's still a possibility that Rey isn't related to Luke Skywalker. Fans will just have to wait for the backstory to be unraveled in "Episode 8."

According to Screen Rant, "Rogue one: A Star Wars Story" premieres on Dec. 18, while "Episode 8" arrives in theaters on May 26, 2018.
