Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly focused on rebuilding their team as ace player Kobe Bryant prepares for this retirement. According to the latest NBA trade rumors, it looks like they are going for a big fish as the team aims to revive their winning days soon.
The latest NBA trade rumors claim that the Purple and Gold team is interested on 26-year old Toronto Raptors shooting guard DeMar Derozan, who, as all fans know, is the cornerstone of the Canadian team.
"Like Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Nic Batum and Mike Conley, DeRozan is eligible for a new deal starting at around $25.3 million a season and escalating from there, since the cap is rocketing from $63.1 million to $90 million," Toronto Sun wrote.
"Just about every team will have ample cap space, including his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, so DeRozan suddenly will be in a whole new economic stratosphere."
A deal with the Lakers can be somewhat irresistible for the one-time All-Star.
First, the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the most historic club in the NBA. Second, he was born in Compton and spent most of his life in Los Angeles. Third, it will be a great career boost to become the leader of a team with huge potential, thanks to its young core.
Before all the NBA trade rumors began to surface, Derozan already spoke about how he wants to stay in Toronto, which is this year's host of the NBA All-Star Game.
"I think I'm just excited for being in Toronto and people really getting a chance to see what Toronto is like," DeRozan said Thursday per Toronto Sun.
"The city, the culture, really, to put us on the main stage and let this city get the credit that it deserves that I feel like it never got."
If ever the trade rumors materialize, DeMar Derozan will join his former NBA teammate Lou Williams who signed a three-year contract at the start of the season.
Also, it will be great for his career path to have a mentor like living legend Kobe Bryant who will retire at the end of the season.
