Los Angeles Lakers Rookie D'Angelo Russell Says Kings Got Lucky He Was Injured At The Endgame

Los Angeles Lakers rookie D'Angelo Russell showed flashes of brilliance, lots of them actually, in their loss to Sacramento Kings the other day. However, he was not able to play until the last seconds after suffering from right ankle injury.

If not for that setback, the result would have been different, said the 19-year old point guard.

"I was hot. If I wouldn't have went down, I probably would have hit some bogus shot and we would have won," he said after the game, as per tweet by L.A. Daily News writer Mark Medina.

He also said Kings "got lucky" according to a report by ESPN.

Critics and basketball fans are raving about Los Angeles Lakers rookie D'Angelo Russell in the last few days owing to his improved play. Against the Kings, he had a career high 27 points, 19 of which he scored in the second half.

Although it was the best performance of his young career, the 2015 second overall draft pick insisted that people hasn't seen anything in his game yet.

"Y'all ain't seen nothing yet," Russell told the press about his performance. "That's all I'm going to say. ... The world hasn't seen anything yet." [...] "I know what I can do. Y'all just got to see."

D'Angelo Russell, as well as other young players like Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr., had their moments this season for the Lakers. However, their fans believe they have more to give if not for the system adopted by coach Byron Scott.

Just recently, general manager Mitch Kupchak hinted Los Angeles Lakers' rookies and other young players might have to wait a little more because this season is still all about team's superstar Kobe Bryant who will retire after this season.

"Under normal circumstances [in a season like this], at some point, you would probably concentrate on just developing all your young players," Kupchak told ESPN on Tuesday. "But we can't do that right now.

"This [season] is really a justified farewell to perhaps the best player in franchise history. And, God willing, he's going to want to play every game and he's going to want to play a lot of minutes in every game, because that's just the way he is."
