According to a recent study conducted at Harvard University, it has been revealed Negative side-effects that there is no relationship between Oral Contraceptive pills and birth control defects.

There has been a concern about the health of babies conceived via both planned and unplanned pregnancies. In case of an unplanned pregnancy, it is likely that the mother could have taken pills and be worried about its side effects that could affect the baby.

This issue is now taken care of, with this study that has declared that Contraceptive pills have no side effects that are tied to birth defects irrespective of whether the pills are taken before or during pregnancies.

With more than 800,000 births across Denmark over five years, with one in 12 women taking the pill less than three months prior to their pregnancies and one in 100 continuing to take those pills during pregnancy, None of them experienced any side effects that were linked to the birth defects of the babies (anomalies of limbs, heart and/or any other organ).

Brittany Charlton, a Scientist at Harvard University said "We confirmed that there wasn't any association between oral contraceptives and major birth defects", and added that, "Our findings were especially reassuring given that we were able to use a different approach. We were able to leverage prescription registries and thus eliminate any bias from women inaccurately recalling their use of the pill" Noted The Guardian.

It was also studied that the rate of major birth defects per 1000 births were consistent irrespective of whether the mothers had taken contraceptive tablets or not.

24.9 Birth defects recorded from women who had never taken the pill and 24.9 birth defects from women who took the pills three months prior to getting pregnant and 24.8 for mothers who continued using the pills even during pregnancy.

Kathleen McNamee, Medical director of Family planning, Victoria said "Sometimes women are worried about the baby when they conceive while they're on the pill, so it's good to get such evidence so we can say 'yes, it's perfectly safe'.There has been some misinformation in the past about the pill and its possible impact on fetuses", Noted The Sydney Morning Herald.

The study has disproved a long-standing uncertainty of whether Contraceptive Pills can have side effects linked to abnormal fetal development.
