Xiaomi Mi 5 Release Date Worth The Wait? Specs Confirmed, Packs Snapdragon 820
A Xiaomi executive announced that Mi 5's release date will take place after Spring Festival / Chinese New Year next month.
Finally, the long wait for the Mi 5 will soon be over.
Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang confirmed on Weibo that the phone will make its first public appearance on Jan. 21 in a scheduled event in Beijing, China. But Xiaomi fans can get their hands on the phone by February.
Hugo Barra also shared on Twitter that the phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.
My own Mi 5 just rolled off our production line today and... into my pocket. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. So worth the wait :)

It is being said that Mi 5 will be the first smartphone to run on the latest chipset but it is most likely to be second as its Chinese competitor Letv already released its Le One Max Pro with Snapdragon 820, GSM Arena noted.
Barra, meanwhile, added that the next flagship device already entered production, and he already has one in his pocket. He reiterated what CEO Lei Jun stated last year that it is "so worth the wait."
As per rumored specs and features, the Xioami Mi 5 will pull off a 5.2-inch screen with 1,440 x 2,560 resolution. It is being said that the phone will support Apple iPhone 6s's Force Touch or 3D Touch pressure sensitive technology. The mobile will also allegedly have physical home button, which houses its fingerprint sensor.
According to WCC Tech , the Mi 5 will be the first handset to feature Qualcomm's ultra-sonic fingerprint sensor. The company opted this technology as it is " able to deliver a much more secure and reliable alternative as opposed to capacitive-based fingerprint sensors."
The Xioami Mi 5 storage options are expected to come in two variants of 32GB/3GB and 64GB/4GB, while MicroSD was not incorporated on this phone. With the mobile's release date just around the corner, the variants are said to be priced at 1,999 yuan and 2,299 yuan respectively, previous rumors claimed.
Camera-wise, there will be a 16MP camera on its rear and 8MP on the front. Other features include an upgraded battery capacity of 3600mAh that supports QuickCharge technology. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be based on Andorid 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7.
