Tweets are likely to get bigger, with Twitter Character Limit Change to be implemented.

The company is likely to make its 140 limit to 10,000, making tweets longer than ever. It's building a new feature that will allow all its users to write longer than the traditional tweets. With it, the social media site is considering a 10,000 character limit, the same as that of its Direct Messages product.

Though there isn't any official announcement or launch date set yet, it is possible that this new feature could fluctuate before it rolls out the final product. This is referred as "Beyond 140". Re/code was the first to report that Twitter was building a feature like this character limit change (back in september) to which the company's spokesperson declined to make any comments.

The testing version appears to be in such a way that the tweets appear the same as before, displaying just the traditional 140 characters. But it has some kind of call to action to be able to view more content. On clicking a tweet, it would expand to reveal more content.

The idea behind this is to keep the same look -and -feel as earlier and this design isn't finalised yet. The design aspect is to make tweets longer by adding more content or bigger images. If tweets take a long time to consume or take up more space on your screen, it is also probable that only a few of them would be viewed. So twitter is trying to add more content without disrupting the way you always have been scrolling through.

Company CEO, Jack Dorsey is reportedly close to unveiling this update on social media service. He said "We've spent a lot of time observing what people are doing on Twitter, and we see them taking screenshots of text and tweeting it. Instead, what if that text ... was actually text? Text that could be searched, Text that could be highlighted! That's more utility and power." cited Forbes.

With the New Twitter Character Limit Change, People are likely to engage in Longer tweets than ever!
