'Doctor Who' Season 10 Spoilers And More: Sean Pertwee Explains Why He Can't Play As The New Doctor

If there is one actor very familiar with "Doctor Who," it is Sean Pertwee. His father, Jon, played as the Third Doctor in the English TV series.

"Doctor Who" season 10 spoilers dominate conversation among fans but they are also looking ahead after Peter Capaldi said "this could be my last year" in the show. Enter the younger Pertwee.

Pertwee is heavily linked to the role his father once played and immortalized. However, he does not want any of it.

Pertwee, who is now visible in TV through Fox TV series "Gotham" where he portrays Alfred Pennyworth, says he wants to become the new Doctor but doubts he will be able to give it justice.

"Too big boots to fill," he told the Mirror. "I could never do that. I'd love to, at some point in my life, do something as an ode to my father and also as an ode to the show. It's an institution, it something that makes you proud to be British

Another reason why he is refusing the role of the main guy in "Doctor Who" season 10 is he wants the image of his father to remain as his 'Doctor.'

"But how can you top my dad? You can't. He was my Doctor Who," he added.

There is not much "Doctor Who" season 10 spoilers around right now. In fact, the show is yet to find a new showrunner after Russell T. Davies left.

"That is an issue (finding new showrunner) and one I'm actively engaged in but I can't say much about that," writer and producer Steven Moffat told Radio Times. "Everything is difficult in Doctor Who, including leaving, and I would never do anything to harm it."

He also said that he understands why Davies left. However, he insists he is not leaving "Doctor Who" yet.

"I'm gobsmacked by how much 'Doctor Who' I've written - an insane amount," he said. "I won't be leaving because I'm suddenly miserable. It'll be because I want to do something else."
