Oculus Rift Release Date: Price Higher Than HTC Vive? Pre-order Starts Jan. 6
The Oculus Rift release date is looming as pre-orders takes place tomorrow.
In a blog post on Monday, the company, which was bought by Facebook last year, announced that its VR headset will roll out its pre-orders. It is also being said that Oculus VR headset comes with two free games, "Lucky's Tale" and "CCP's EVE: Valkyrie," The Verge reported.
"Today, we're excited to announce that pre-orders for Rift will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6," the post reads. "We'll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live."
Though the pre-order kicks off on Jan. 6, Oculus Rift VR headset price is still unknown. All pre-orders are available online. But retailers would have devices available for trial ahead of its release date, Alphr reported.
Meanwhile, backers who donated "enough" for Oculus Rift Kickstarter back in 2012 will receive the device for free. Marked with Kickstarter, backers are among the first to get their hands on the VR headset.
As for its release date, Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster believes that Oculus will be shipping the VR headset in March 2016. He also claimed that its price would cost around $450, which is higher that HTC Vive's rumored price of $350, according to Barron's blog.
Prospect buyers must note that Oculus Rift VR headset requires a high specs on a laptop. They must own a laptop mostly priced at $1,000 with Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card or above, an Intel Core i5-4590 equivalent or greater, and at least 8GB of RAM. It will also require users to have a running Windows 7 SP1 or later, have two US3 ports, and an HDMI 1.3 video output that can support a clock speed of 297MHz via a direct output architecture, according to Expert Reviews UK .
