PSN Down Update:Sony Acknowledges Possible Attack? Announces PS Plus, Video Rentals Extension
PSN was down for a while and while Sony acknowledged that some services were facing "issues," the company did not reveal its cause.
Reportedly, PSN was down the whole day as PlayStation users caused uproar on social media. Users have been reporting that the website is "under maintenance," even though there was no planned or announced system maintenance from Sony

After thousands of users vented out their frustration on Twitter, Sony confirmed that services for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita's services such as Account Management, Gaming And Social, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Music.
A customer service representative also recognized the issue, Express UK reported .
"We are aware that some gamers are not able to sign in to the PlayStation Network as the server is undergoing maintenance, we are currently working hard to have the servers up and running again," the customer service representative wrote .
"We apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience. We kindly advise you to try to connect again later on today. Thank you for understanding."
As of 11:20PM GMT, PSN was still down as @AskPlayStation tweeted they are still "experiencing high volume and wait times."
But later today, Sony PSN's online services are now "functioning normally," according to the Daily Star .
"PSN has been restored. You should be able to access online features without any problems now. https://status.playstation.com," PlayStation Europe posted on Twitter.
Though Phantom Squad has already taken credits for this outage, Sony is yet to make an announcement as to why there had been a major system downtime on its PSN services. The hacking group was also responsible for PSN offline issues over the holidays. However, Sony didn't acknowledge it as a DDOS attack.
Due to PSN being down for almost 11 hours, Sony announced that it's extending PS Plus, Video Rentals Extension and PlayStation Now services.
