'Independence Day Resurgence' Spoilers: Will Smith’s Character Dies? Son Continues His Legacy?
"Independence Day: Resurgence" actor, Will Smith shared his thoughts about his character's fate in the sequel along with some details about the upcoming film during a recent interview.
The time that the actor and director Roland Emmerich talked about it, he was still filming scenes for "Suicide Squad."
He said that, "The trailer looks really cool," according to Yahoo Movies.
"I'm going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out. It was terrible when I found out my character died." the actor added.
The production took 20 years to make the sequel since the release of the original one. It may come as a surprise, however, that the Captain Steve Hiller's actor will not make his return and was revealed that his character died before the events of the second film.
Prior to "Independence Day: Resurgence" release, Will Smith starred on the first movie that had the highest gross income in 1996 that made him a known actor. It was also aired in televisions throughout the years, considering Bill Pullman's quotable monologue popularity, according to Cinema Blend.
Fans could still look forward to the second movie, though, even if Captain Steve Hiller died in a plane crash since his son, Dylan, played by Jessie Usher, will take the spotlight in the film in order to continue his father's legacy.
Meanwhile, other characters such as Vivica A. Fox as Hiller's widow named Jasmine are expected to make a comeback.
Aside from Hiller's actor, Mae Whitman will not be returning as the daughter of Bill Pullman as well. Accordingly, the actress already took a successful path for her television and film career.
On the other hand, Emmerich previously released a statement during an interview with Cinema Blend about the main actor's decision to leave.
"In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it, but then after a while he was tired of sequels," Entertainment Weekly revealed.
"And he did another science-fiction film, which was his father-son story 'After Earth,' so he opted out," the statement continued.
It was noted that Will Smith fans may still enjoy "Independence Day: Resurgence," which will hit theaters on June 24, amid his reported non-appearance in the film.
