Apple Introduces Bigger iPad, Apple Pencil, New Apple TV And New iPhones During An Event In California
Apple Inc. has revealed its new devices during a huge launch in California on Tuesday. Among the new devices introduced are iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, new Apple TV and two new iPhones.A BBC report states on Wednesday that the iPad Pro's main feature is a bigger display. It measures 12.9 inches or 32.8 centimeters.
The company has recorded a decline of 19% on the sales of the previous iPad between October to June compared to the same period last year. However, an expert says that the company might recover from the downturn with its iPad Pro.
"As much as the iPad is experiencing some challenging times, it's vastly more successful than any other tablet on the market and it's still a multi-billion dollar business," says CCS Insight consultancy Geoff Blaber.
"Moreover, what's happened is there's been cannibalisation from larger screened iPhones. A larger-screened iPad should definitely breathe some life into the category. But the price will be a barrier for many."
iPad Pro will be made available to the public in November and will cost around $799 to $1,079. Aside from this, the company has revealed the Apple Pencil - a stylus with sensors on the tip to give an effect similar to a real pencil.
The firm also introduces its Apple TV, which features tvOS and Siri. It comes with a tiny remote used for selecting programs and applications. It will be on sale in October, with prices ranging from $149 to $199.
During the event, Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook admits that it has taken them years before coming up with the new idea. Cook believes that "the future of TV is apps."
On the other hand, a new rose gold color will be added to the color options of the two new iPhones - iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Also, the new phones will be available in colors space gray, silver and gold.
The new phones feature 3D Touch with various functions, 12-megapixel back cameras and processor boosts.
"In developed markets Apple has a huge potential to sell to existing iPhone users who were not able to upgrade when the iPhone 6 launched because they were tied to contracts and then decided to wait until now," IDC Francisco Jeronimo comments. "But in markets like China it's about attracting new users."
He goes on, "Those who were not attracted by the iPhone before will probably continue not to be interested. For the others, the new features themselves will not make a significant difference - it's more important for Apple to grow awareness of its products."
Pre-orders of the new iPhones can be made starting September 12. Also, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will be available in the market on September 25, according to The Telegraph on Friday.
