'Gran Turismo 7' Release Date: Beta Version Rumored To Drop This Year!

Here's the latest on "Gran Turismo 7's" release date.

Last year in October, Sony Computer Entertainment announced at the Paris Game Week that it will be releasing "Gran Turismo Sports" in early 2016. The news came out as a disappointment to fans that have been waiting on "Gran Turismo 7's" release date.

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Jim Ryan clarified that "Gran Turismo Sports" isn't a prologue to the seventh installment, explaining that more can be done with "Gran Turismo Sports" as DLC which wasn't possible in previous prologue installments.

"Is it a prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that," Ryan said in a statement published by Eurogamer. "The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what's on the disc. You had a distinction between a prologue and a full GT, it was very stark."

"When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs," he added. "This will be much more than a prologue type experience."

Fans were expecting that "Gran Turismo 7's" release date be will finally be revealed this year based on the hints of Polyphony CEO and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi who previously mentioned that the upcoming installment will feature premium cars that represent modern-day racing. However, if Yamauchi is creating a game with cars from 2015 and 2016 with plans on releasing beyond 2017, it would no longer represent modern-day racing.

Still, there is a chance the highly-anticipated "Gran Turismo 7" could be released earlier than expected as reports have it that Polyphony Digital has announced a release date for a beta version of the game.

According to Master Herald, releasing a beta version usually indicates that the game is nearly completed. If the beta version of the elusive installment drops in the first quarter of the 2016, there's a good chance that the "Gran Turismo 7" release date will be also be revealed within the year.
