'Godzilla 2' Monsters And Release Date Confirmed! Japan's Toho Unveils Poster For Their Latest Reboot

"Godzilla 2's" monsters and release date have been confirmed.

Warner Bros. and Legendary, the backing studio for Hollywood's "Godzilla" franchise, have revealed the monsters appearing in the much-awaited reboot sequel.

"Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla in May 2014 with an agreement to release Godzilla 2 on June 8, 2018. Both films feature the human Monarch organization," reads an official press release from Legendary. "Shortly following Legendary's pact with NBC Universal, Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho's Godzilla universe, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah."

Rodan, a fire-breathing creature that has the special ability of emitting powerful shockwaves when he flies made first appeared as the titular character in the 1956 film "Rodan."

Mothra, a gigantic moth-like creature debuted in Toho's 1961 film "Mothra" and has appeared in several Toho tokusatsu films. Mothra is often a recurring character in the Godzilla franchise.

King Ghidora, a three-headed dragon-like creature is the franchise's series' first villain. 1964's "Ghidora: the Three-Headed Monster" saw Godzilla turn from villain to hero as he saved humanity from the evil creature from outer space.

Meanwhile, Toho Studios is currently filming their own reboot of "Godzilla."

According to Slash Film, the Japanese company licensed the franchise to Legendary and Warner Bros. for the 2014 reboot by director Gareth Edwards. Following the success of the Edwards' film, Toho announced they will be making their own reboot with the intention to outdo the Hollywood adaptation.

"The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood," Toho producer Taichi Ueda said in a statement.

Toho's "Godzilla: Resurgence" is slated for a July 29, 2016 release. Legendary's "Godzilla 2" arrives in theaters on June 4, 2018.
