'Empire' Season 2 Spoiler: Lucious To Lose Another Son When Show Returns March?
Lucious Lyon already lost his company Empire Entertainment because of his youngest son Hakeem who chose to side with enemies during the voting to oust him. The music mogul already lost two of his sons and according to latest "Empire" season 2 spoilers, it looks like he is set to become estranged to another one yet again.
"Empire" season 2 episode 10 titled "Et Tu, Brute", also known as the mid-season finale, ended with father and son, Lucious and Jamal, being set up as opponents for the Song of the Year award. The older Lyon even said "bring it on," an indication that he is dead serious about winning the award, even at the expense of his own son.
Jussie Smollett said this development will put a huge dent on the relationship between Jamal and Lyon, a relationship many thought was already settled in the first few episodes of the second season.
"This clearly is going to put a big strain on that relationship," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think it would have been foolish ever to assume that that relationship would continue unchallenged."
One might ask why Lucious has to be mean to his sons. According to Smollett, it is because he is not yet ready to be upstaged by his boys, especially by the gay one.
"From the point of view of personal drama, he's just become such a threat to Lucious that that's going to be something Jamal has to contend with and Lucious has to contend with," he explained when pressed for more "Empire" season 2 spoilers.
He added, "Lucious is not ready to be surpassed by any of his children, not the least his gay son. That's going to create problems. Further to that, Jamal is an artist who will always struggle with telling his truth and living in his truth versus living in a world of fame and living in his celebrity status, which to an artist like Jamal, can be corrupting, and that's going to be a challenge for Jamal."
"Empire" season 2 episode 11 is entitled "Death Will Have His Day" and will air on March 30.
