Oculus Touch Release Date Delayed? Developers Release Official Statement!
Oculus VR's Oculus Touch device has delayed its release until the second half of 2016. However, the company will take pre-orders a few months ahead of its official launch, an event that has yet to be determined. Oculus had previously planned to launch it during the first half of 2016 along with its Rift headset.
This is likely to disappoint fans who have been pining to finally grab this new technology. After launching in 2012, the company has reinvigorated user interest in virtual reality, prompting other companies to come up with their own rivalling products.
According to CNET, Oculus' Touch controllers come in an unusual shape that looks more like skeletal hand-grips than wands.
According to Gizmag, knowing that the Oculus' Touch controllers that will give you hands inside virtual worlds, theres a delay in the device's release that creates a wider gap between the launches of Oculus Rift and Touch (of more than three months). However, this delay is expected not to be a setback for the Oculus Rift or generally virtual reality. Though Oculus VR had announced Touch last june, the developers are still working on it to create games and experiences built around its controllers.
"On Touch hardware, we've made significant advances in ergonomics, and we're implementing many changes that make Touch even more comfortable, reliable, and natural," Oculus's blog post read, as cited by PCMag. "We're also implementing changes that improve hand pose recognition. We're also outputting larger numbers of pre-production runs, which means we can get a lot more Touch hardware in the hands of developers who need it."
The company is also planning to showcase a lot of breakthrough new content during the developer conference "Oculus Connect 2" in September. This includes new interactive elements that the anticipated unit will work with.
The feedback on the release date for Oculus Touch has been incredibly positive and this new timeline is expected to produce a better product that will be created after a large number of pre-production runs.
