Korean Comedian-Host Kim Gu Ra Wins Highest Honor From The 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards
Comedian and TV host Kim Gu Ra won the highest honor from the 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards Tuesday defeating Yoo Jae Suk of "Infinite Challenge" who was also nominated for the award.
Korea Joongang Daily reported Thursday that it was Kim's first grand award since his career started in 1993.
"I would say this is the happiest moment of my life," Kim said. "I always have been a troublemaker, but I could get this award all thanks to you."
He went on, "Still, a majority of people criticize the way I host TV shows, and some feel uncomfortable seeing me on TV, but I will reflect on my wrongdoings for the rest of my life."
The 45-year-old comedian-host is currently hosting programs including MBC's "Radio Star" and "King of Mask Singer." Aside from those, the comedian can also be seen in TV shows such as, "It's Okay" and "Mr. Baek the Homemade Food Master."
In his speech, Kim gave all the credit to the viewers for their continuous support to his shows.
"It wasn't my efforts that made this possible," he said, as noted by Korea Times Wednesday. "It was because of all of you who contributed to me winning this award. Variety shows wouldn't have existed without TV viewers."
"And I wish they will keep having an interest in my MBC talk show program 'Radio Star,' which is like my heart," Kim added.
In August, Kim was linked in a controversy after ending his 18-year marriage with his wife through consensual divorce.
Kim said in a dispatch that he and his wife have decided to call it quits after realizing that the gap between them can no longer be fixed despite going through a series of counseling.
The comedian-host has gone through a lot of issues aside from his recent divorce. Kim was blasted for the way he hosts, nonetheless, his personality might be one of the reasons why he topped the recent MBC Entertainment Awards.
