Music fans and punk rockers alike were disheartened when they heard that former Blink 182 frontman Tom DeLone left the band.

However, news circulated that the band was recording new songs for an upcoming album with Matt Skiba, which was reported to sound like an "early Blink 182 meets Alkaline Trio" and slated to be released in 2016, according to sources.

It was noted that Blink 182 might drop their much anticipated new album sometime in 2016, after new materials surfaced and teased the fans of new songs, as reported by Kerrang.

After Tom DeLonge left the punk band in 2015, Blink 182 immediately named his replacement, Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba, who filled in for the remaining 2015 tour dates of the band, NME claimed.

During the said period, it was hinted by Matt Skiba that he was actually interested in the idea of recording a new album with bassist Mark Hoppus and Drummer Travis Barker of Blink 182.

"I think that's a great idea and it's something we have discussed," Skiba mentioned.

"It's something I would be very excited to do and I've known the Blink guys for about 15 years, and we've become good friends. Playing songs I haven't written with Mark and Travis is a blast, so to go in and create music with them would be amazing," he added.

In an interview, drummer Travis Barker mentioned that the three of them have already recorded five new songs for the upcoming new album of Blink 182, according to RollingStone.

"Matt's killing it," Barker said in the interview, courtesy of the source.

"He's fun to play with and write with. We're just getting started, but I think we've got like four or five songs right now that I'm really, really happy with," he added.

"There's a song called 'Punk Rock Cliché' which I love the most right now. It's about friends of ours and their relationships," he further added.

In another interview, bassist Mark Hoppus commented on what kind of sound the new Blink 182 album might sound.

"We have a few songs that are pretty far along, pretty well in," the bassist said.

"Right now the stuff that we're writing sounds like early Blink meets early Alkaline Trio. I'm really happy with the way that it's going and the energy in the studio's great..." Hoppus further said, courtesy of The Music
