The name of Maisie Williams has been linked to the movie project for quite some time already and according to Screen Rant, she's potentially going to portray the role of Ellie in "The Last of Us."
The 18-year-old "Game of Thrones" cast did clarify that she is indeed thrilled about the idea of being casted as Ellie in the upcoming "The Last of Us" movie, according to the source.
"I had a lunch a little while ago and we spoke about the possibility of me playing Ellie and that's really exciting and I would absolutely love to," the actress said, courtesy of the source.
"There's no script, no director, it's still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to," she added.
While it's most likely going to be Maisie Williams in the picture, no official word has been made yet to confirm her appearance in the movie adaptation of the hit game.
Moreover, it was reported that the much anticipated movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic video-game "The Last of Us" will have bigger changes once it hits its release date and veer away from the exact story of its 2013 game title, as stated by GameSpot.
Even though there will be changes made, the "The Last of Us" director Neil Druckmann, who is working with Sony to write the movie adaptation, assured its fans that once the film is released it will still retain its overall tone similar to the game.
The director stated that the movie adaptation of "The Last of Us" will remain truthful to its origins, according to Cinema Blend.
"Pretty faithful to the game," Neil Druckmann said in an interview, courtesy of the source. "There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story's trying to say is pretty faithful to the game," he added.
It was also reported that director Neil Druckmann has finished the draft for the "The Last of Us" movie and confirmed some of the potential actors to form the film's cast and portray lead characters Ellie and Joel, as stated by Latino Post.
"I just finished the second draft and we did a table read with a bunch of actors and that's where we're at," the director stated, courtesy of the source.
However, there hasn't been any news nor rumors as to who will helm the movie adaption of "The Last of Us."
An official release date has yet to be announced as well.
