A group of software developers have claimed that the Sony PlayStation 4 has finally been hacked, according to Eurogamer.net.

In the past, hackers have been trying hard to hack the PlayStation 4 after they have perfected in doing so for the PlayStation 3. Some hacking groups worked on it to prove that it could be done for the PS3 since it was hacked too. The problem was the PS3 was hacked after a couple of years after it first got released to the market. Many groups speculated that it will take more time to hack the PlayStation 4 due to the complicated code it had.

A few days ago, there were reports that an exploit has been found on the PlayStation 4. This exploit gave complete access to users to the system RAM of the console. It was hacker CTurt that revealed this exploit and explained the methodology.

The methodology involves exploiting the PS4's WebKit browser and somehow giving the process Kernel-level access. This lets a user gain access to the highest security level in the console system.

The PlayStation 4 hackers have shown a video which proves that they have done the deed. The posts from the hackers can be read here.

Some readers might not understand the technical details of the posts, but the video attached in the post shows the forcing of the console's UI to crash, according to Gameranx. The hackers were able to dump the system RAM so that they can manipulate the system's code.

CTurt, one of the developers who claimed that he has finally cracked the next generation console has posted an announcement on Twitter. The tweets are protected though.

"Just broke WebKit process out of a FreeBSD jail (cred->cr_prison = &prison0)," read the tweet. "Guess you could say the PS4 is now officially "jailbroken" :p."

The PlayStation 4 hack will most likely be used to pirate games, according to Network World. The hackers have other things in mind though. They want to use this hack to allow games purchased for older PlayStation consoles to be compatible with the newest console.
