‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Producer Explains Decision; Company Considered Fans’ Reactions!
"Final Fantasy VII Remake" producer explains decision of the company to go episodic, according to Destructoid.
Last weekend during the PSX event, Square Enix showed a gameplay trailer of the remake of "Final Fantasy VII." The announcement was either praised or criticized by the fans that saw it. After the gameplay trailer was shown, it was announced by the company that the game would be "multi-part." Some game sites thought that it would be episodic like the "Final Fantasy XIII" game series, but it was not clearly explained by the statement.
Yoshinori Kitase, director of the original 1999 PlayStation release, explained in a statement why the company chose this direction, according to Gamespot. The development team had the opportunity to "go beyond the story, world and experience of Final Fantasy 7 in ways we've always dreamed of," he said. They took this as an opportunity to expand the story and make it a better experience for the fans and new gamers.
In addition, he said that trying to fit everything from the original one installment might result in condensing "Final "Fantasy 7 Remake."
"The biggest reason why we haven't done a remake until now is because it's a massive undertaking to reconstruct Final Fantasy 7 from the ground up with the current technology," explained Kitase.
"Producing a proper HD remake of Final Fantasy 7 that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one installment," he continued.
Kitase also said that the company is reading the comments and reactions to the news of the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" that it will be a multi-part series, according to Polygon. He also confirms that some fans have correctly guessed the reason why the company has gone into that direction.
In addition, Square Enix knew that the fans would not want a smaller version of the game. His statements are similar to what character designer Tetsuya Nomura said to Famitsu in an interview.
